The fire located 10 km from homes in Sept-Îles did not progress south this morning, but still worries the authorities. Civil Security, Sopfeu, the cities and the MRC consult every hour to assess whether it is necessary to evacuate residents in certain sectors.
The City of Sept-Îles invites, for the moment, only vacationers to leave or avoid the area of the forest fire.
Winds and fires under surveillance
“We are planning different scenarios depending on the winds and the evolution of the fires,” explains the spokesperson for the City of Sept-Îles Amélie Robillard. “For the moment there is no question of evacuation. We are preparing in the event that the fire comes closer.
Residents of Lac-Daigle could be the first guests to leave their homes at the invitation of the MRC Sept-Rivières. The Society for the Protection of Forests against Fire provides the relevant data to its partners for a decision. The direction of the winds will be important in the next few hours.
Lots of Sopfeu staff
The fire 10km from Sept-Îles is still out of control, said the spokesperson for Sopfeu. The other forest fire 50 km further north worries the authorities much less.
The flammability index is extreme everywhere on the North Shore and in several regions of Quebec. Sopfeu multiplies the interventions with four tanker planes, a helicopter and several forest firefighters in Sept-Îles.
An air quality advisory in connection with the forest fires is issued for Sept-Îles, with several tips for people who are vulnerable or have respiratory problems.
