The motorists concerned will not be able to escape a price increase, except for those who have taken out very specific insurance, but there are few of them.

Most motorists fear having certain additional costs that will increase their budget. Between the cost of fuel, regular maintenance, insurance and possible repairs, each unexpected expense can quickly become a financial headache. Especially since the car is essential for many people on a daily basis, for getting to work or getting around. In recent years, motorists have been faced with inflation in fuel prices, but this time, it's another expense that will impact their wallets.

Each year, these prices are revalued, and in ten years this represents a little more than 20% increase. These include breakdown assistance and towing services on motorways and expressways. Concretely, from December 1, 2024, prices will increase by +2.87%. For on-site repairs or requiring towing, you will then have to pay 148.67 euros, instead of 144.52 euros previously.

This new rate applies to vehicles weighing less than or equal to 1.8 tonnes (for breakdown assistance with towing) and to vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tonnes for on-site assistance. For a weight above, the amount of breakdown assistance with towing will now be 183.83 euros. Overall, this concerns a good number of motorists, because apart from those who have taken out “all risks” insurance, other contracts do not always cover repair, towing or evacuation operations.

Furthermore, you should know that “these prices are increased by 50% if the emergency call [pour un dépannage, ndlr] was spent between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. or on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays”, can we read on the Public Service website. This new pricing was also set and regulated by a ministerial decree, published on November 1 in Official Journal.
