The town hall of the 12th arrondissement of Paris was affected during the night from Sunday to Monday by a spectacular fire which ignited its campanile high about thirty meters. No victim is to be deplored.
The fire was “controlled” shortly before 7:00 am, said a spokesperson for the Paris firefighters (BSPP), which was alerted around 3:20 am. About sixty devices and 150 fire soldiers were mobilized to fight the disaster.
According to an AFP journalist on site, a large security perimeter was established by the police headquarters around the imposing 19th century building. Around 7:30 am, no flame was visible but glowing elements still fell on the ground.
The “roof fire”, whose origin is not known, “attacked” the 36 -meter campanile styling the town hall, and this belfry has a time presented “a risk of collapse”, according to the officer of Communication from the BSPP. “We must now confirm that nothing will fall,” he added.
