In Paris, the town hall of the 12th arrondissement and its bell tower affected by a spectacular fire

The town hall of 12^e district of Paris was hit during the night from Sunday to Monday January 27 by a spectacular fire which set its bell tower, around thirty meters high, ablaze, without causing any casualties, firefighters reported to Agence France- Press (AFP).

The fire was “controlled” shortly before 7 a.m., a spokesperson for the Paris fire brigade (BSPP) told AFP. Around sixty vehicles as well as 150 firefighters were engaged to combat the disaster.

The “roof fire”whose origin is not known, has ” attack “ the 36-meter bell tower capping the town hall, and this belfry was once presented “a risk of collapse”according to the BSPP communications officer.

Preserved works of art

According to an AFP journalist on site, a large security perimeter was established by the police headquarters around the imposing 19th century building.^e century. Around 7:30 a.m., no flames were visible, but incandescent elements were still falling to the ground, the same source noted.

“We must now confirm that nothing is going to fall”added this spokesperson, predicting that the firefighters would remain “at the bedside” of the building for a good part of the day Monday. “Inside, under the roof, we will have to evacuate the water [déversée par les pompiers] »added this source, specifying that the BSPP had initiated its conservation module for the works of art present in the building.
