Shortly after the quarter of an hour, Assenois logically took the lead via the whirling Degros who scored twice in less than ten minutes. The locals then maintained their domination against a Chaumont team in difficulty on the synthetic surface. Pierre and Fautré do try a few offensive incursions but the solid defense of Assenois keeps watch.
Dull second half
Returning from the locker room, Assenois moves back further and leaves some space for the visitors. In the 53rd minute, Fautré had a great opportunity, but Lott intervened. Shortly after, Chaumont missed the boat. Taking advantage of the flaws in the local defense, Jamar finds himself alone against the local goalkeeper, but he loses his duel. These two opportunities will be almost the only real feats of arms in a second half that is very poor in spectacle.
While Assenois dominated the match in a very sterile manner, the visitors attempted rare offensive forays without worrying the local rearguard. The climbs of Noël and Jacob somewhat revitalized the locals. At the end of the match, we will remember a shot from Schmit just above the target or the intervention of Marichal on a Christmas shot.
This victory allows Assenois to maintain a lead of two units over Messancy, second in class.
