The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 passed Time Spy’s synthetic tests. Surprise, its performance is below the RTX 4090 of the previous generation. Obviously, players are worried about this gap. So what are the results? We explain everything to you.
That’s it, the RTX 50 series was unveiled by Nvidia during CES 2025. Gamers are impatiently awaiting their release but be careful, it seems that stocks are limited according to resellers. While waiting for their commercialization, the first synthetic tests are arriving.
What are the results of the RTX 5080 synthetic benchmarks?
Time Spy synthetic tests show a score of 32,701 points for the RTX 5080, approximately 10% below that of the RTX 4090 with its 36,318 points. The disappointment is therefore great as the graphics card has shown us what it is capable of in Cyberpunk 2077.
So of course, these synthetic tests will be confirmed in game but these benchmarks give a little idea of the real capabilities of the RTX 5080. So if you are looking for excellent performance, it is better to turn to the RTX 5090 (at least, if you have a large budget). The first benchmarks of the graphics card show better results.
Vulkan tests also show a score of 281,746 points for the RTX 5080 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. As for the OpenCL tests, it’s 337,319 points. Between this graphics card and the RTX 5090, we are talking about a gap of 23% for the Vulkan benchmarks and 17.6% for the OpenCL tests. In short, there are big differences.
-As a reminder, The RTX 4080 has a score of 259,403 points for Vulkan tests and 254,007 points for OpenCL tests. The differences with the RTX 5080 are very modest: what if for your wallet, the best solution was to turn to the previous generation?
Obviously, these preliminary results will require confirmation during more in-depth testsespecially during gaming sessions. Only benchmarks will confirm the true potential of the RTX 5080 and these synthetic tests reflect real-world performance.
