The Royal Gendarmerie du Canada (GRC) Whitehorse is searching for a vehicle that was submerged under the ice of Lake Laberge, Yukon, Saturday night and a person is believed to be still inside.

Three people were in the vehicle when the incident occurred. Two of them were able to get out and get to safety, but the third person was not found.

Police continue to investigate this tragic event with the assistance of the Yukon Coroner Service.

Federal police have indicated that the investigation will involve complex and long-term recovery operation . The underwater recovery team of the GRC of British Columbia will participate in the operation, which is expected to last several days.
