In a surprising turn of events, Brazilian Soccer star Neymar appears to be preparing to return to his roots at Santos FC, according to reports on Sunday.
Currently under contract with Saudi club Al Hilal, Neymar has faced criticism from manager Jorge Jesus, who noted earlier this month that the striker was not performing at his usual level and will not be not selected for the Saudi Pro League. This leaves Neymar eligible only for the Asian Champions League.
As a result, the talented player is reportedly looking for a new club, and a return to the team where he began his professional career is looking increasingly likely.
Sources say Neymar’s contract with Al Hilal is set to be terminated. Discussions between the two sides are planned for early this week in the hope of reaching an agreement. If a deal is reached, Neymar is expected to sign a six-month contract with Santos, with an option for a one-year extension.

If this amicable separation goes through, Neymar could return to Brazil this week and could make his debut for Santos as early as February 5.
By terminating his contract with Al Hilal, Neymar would give up around $65 million in earnings.
A few weeks ago, Neymar hinted that he wanted to reunite with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, having previously shared the pitch with them at Barcelona.
