Jordi Alba had become an emblematic figure of Barça over the seasons. But against all odds, he decided to leave the club in 2023. And recently, he returned to the real reason for his departure.
Having become captain of Barça, Jordi Alba affirmed that it was the offer made to him by the club which pushed him towards the exit.
“It would have been difficult to stay in Barcelona with my family. But staying on the bench didn’t suit me. It was also a good decision for the club.
I didn’t plan to leave Barça, because I had an extra season under contract and a renewal option.
The easiest decision was to stay. But in the end, I decided to leave and I’m not looking at it”he declared.
Generous in effort and solid on the side, Jordi Alba became a Barça executive during his last seasons in Catalonia. However, the plan the club had for him was no longer to his liking.
-“My last season at Barça showed a version of me who didn’t play, but who supported my teammates. I had more support from those around me”he added bitterly.
According to Jordi Alba, his last moments with the Blaugrana were not warm.
The player had to turn to his family to keep his spirits up.
This is how in the summer of 2023, he flew to Inter Miami in MLS after 11 years of good and loyal service to Barcelona.
