Nicolas Florian died this Sunday, January 26 at the Bordeaux University Hospital where he was admitted on Friday following a stroke. He was 55 years old.
Close to Alain Juppé, he joined the Bordeaux municipal council in 2014. He succeeded his “mentor” as mayor of Bordeaux when the former Prime Minister was appointed to the Constitutional Council in 2019. Defeated in 2020 by Pierre Hurmic , he had never hidden that he wanted to present his candidacy for the 2026 municipal elections.
Head of the LR list during the 2021 regional elections, Nicolas Florian had visited Haute-Vienne numerous times. His last official visit to the department dates back to August 31, 2024, when he came to support Guillaume Guérin during his political return to Beaumont-du-Lac.

Numerous reactions, from all political sides, welcomed the sudden death of the Gironde elected official. “The entire Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council is in mourning,” assured Alain Rousset, the president of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council. The former mayor of Bordeaux was an involved regional elected official, a pragmatic president of the finance committee, always attentive, a Republican of dialogue. With Nicolas Florian, we had differences, but never any opposition in principle. I remember his curious and warm personality, both experienced and developing. »
“It is with shock and deep sadness that I learned of the sudden death of Nicolas Florian,” said Etienne Guyot, prefect of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. My first thoughts are with his wife and son. Nicolas Florian was a man of action, open-minded, very committed to public action in Bordeaux and the Metropolis. I salute a man of conviction who played a decisive role in continuing the development and modernization of the city (…) as well as the quality of life of our fellow citizens. »
