Derby or not, there are limits.
The electric atmosphere of the derby between Nice and Marseille, played this Sunday evening on the Côte d’Azur, gave very bad ideas to the Ultras Populaire Sud (ex-Brigade Sud Nice, dissolved in 2010). Before the match kicked off, a tifo deployed across the entire bend revealed the message: “The sun is setting in Nice… Let the rat hunt begin!” »
Songs deemed homophobic
The words here are not chosen at random, “rat” being a derogatory and discriminatory term – to say the least – regularly used in several Ligue 1 stands – and notably in Nice – to designate Marseille and its inhabitants. Note also the funny font. In addition, the game was interrupted during the first period to invite these same ultras to stop some of their songs, deemed homophobic.
This is not going to do the reputation of Gym supporters any favors.
