Work on the future trambus will begin: these 3 points which are causing debate

The other side of the coin: this will result in particular in reductions in the number of lanes in certain sectors and fewer parking spaces. Avenue Gaston Berger, for example, along the 2 campus, in the Villejean district. Or even on the edge of the Mitterrand mall. In a word: the impact on traffic is likely to be significant. This is the price to pay to encourage people to switch to public transport, the community essentially argues.

  • 2 In Bruz, tensions around the terminus of the T4 line

It will be the most metropolitan of all, since it will be the only one not to go through Rennes. Trambus line 4, which should enter service around 2030, will connect the Saint-Jacques-Gaîté metro station, then the airport and the Parc Expo, to Bruz. But where should the Bruz terminus be placed? Two options are on the table. A stop just before the heart of the city. Or right in the center, after crossing Place du Docteur Jolly. “Would we break up this place that has just been redone? And to make it narrower, when the Friday market attracts a lot of people? Traders are worried about the elimination of parking spaces,” criticizes Patrick Roullé, an opposition politician. Arguments swept aside by the majority, which retorts that “the planned project consists of the creation of a 4 meter wide lane, currently occupied by flower boxes”. She adds that “this development will have no impact on the organization of the market”.

Another point to decide: should the line pass through Bruz station or rather follow the current route of line C7? These two variants are under study. The first solution is preferred, because it would allow direct access to the train. Difficulty: crossing the railway line via a narrow bridge which represents a congestion point. The roundabouts would therefore be transformed into traffic light intersections with trambus priority.

  • 3 Zones of friction to the west, on T2

One sector will be particularly disrupted: that of rue de , where a new traffic plan will be put in place. Residents will still be able to circulate in the neighborhood but a clever labyrinth of prohibited and one-way streets will prevent them from going straight on the street. Only the T2 trambus will be authorized there. The idea is to discourage cars just passing by. This transit traffic will be deported to another axis.

Roazhon Park will be served by trambus line T2. This requires removing two lanes on rue de Lorient. (Artefacto/Rennes Métropole)

A little further, the surroundings of Roazhon Park will also be completely redeveloped with the creation of a double lane reserved for trambuses. Car traffic, for its part, will be concentrated on two axes, compared to three today. Enough to potentially worsen the evening traffic jams in this location. Please note: during matches, the trambus will stop before Roazhon Park, as a safety measure. Normally, the T2 will go to the ZI des Trois Marches, just before the 4 lanes, where a park and ride will be built. It will take the Lorient road, which is very busy today but where no traffic route will be removed.
