Air incident in Lagos

The Boeing 787-800 of United Airlines, which had taken off Thursday evening from Lagos to Washington, was forced to turn around in the middle of the night. Passengers have experienced moments of panic when the plane suffered significant turbulence, causing the dispersion of luggage and meal trays in the cabin. According to a press release from the Federal Airport Authority in Nigeria (FAAN), the device landed safely in Lagos, but not without consequences.

At least 38 people were injured during this incident, including six seriously. The emergency services quickly took care of the victims and transported them to the hospital. United Airlines spokesperson Leslie Scott confirmed that some passengers had already been able to leave the medical establishment.

Nigerian authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of this incident. “We are investigating the incident. We received the flight data log to determine exactly what happened ”, said Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at NCAA. The plane, on the other hand, would have only undergone minor damage.

The reasons for this return of emergency are still vague. If the first information evokes strong turbulence, United Airlines said that the incident was not linked to an extreme meteorological phenomenon. The airline works in close collaboration with the American and Nigerian authorities to understand the causes of this event.

Videos shared on social networks testify to the violence of the shock. We see meals, luggage and other objects scattered in the aisles of the plane, testifying to the strength of the tremors. These images quickly went around the world, arousing stir and concern.

This incident recalls the risks inherent in air transport, even if serious accidents remain fortunately rare. Investigators will now have to determine the exact causes of this event and put in place the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.
