The readings speak for themselves: at the Saint-Martin lock, on the edge of the city center of , the flood reached 1.39 m during the night from Saturday to Sunday. More than in 2000 and not far from the record of 1.57 m recorded in 1981. The water level should not go down in the coming hours due to a new episode of intense precipitation, according to Vigicrues. Which does not rule out that the record of 81 will be reached.

“We are facing a phenomenon that has not occurred for around forty years,” underlined the mayor of Rennes this Sunday morning, from the crisis unit launched the day before. Consequence: several sectors of the city have had their feet in water since Saturday. Starting with the Canal de l’Ille sector, where around a hundred homes and the youth hostel were evacuated on Saturday evening. Many streets in the area are flooded, sometimes offering spectacular images.

Other areas of the city are also under water. Notably the Confluence, at the end of the François Mitterrand mall, where the Ille joins the Vilaine. Or even in Apigné. Three gymnasiums were opened to accommodate the victims. A call center has been opened by the City*, which is also carrying out door-to-door operations in affected areas to identify possible difficult situations.
