The bodies were found in a garden at the back of a house in Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains. It is in this Calvados village that the young couple who had disappeared the day before in a neighboring town were found lifeless this Thursday, January 23. The police have not yet made any arrests in this case.
A potentially armed suspect
The mayor of Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains, Thierry de Koninck (SE), questions the identity of the wanted suspect: “It’s a shock because we are a quiet town. We knew he lived with his mother but we had no information, either good or bad, about him.”
The respective families and friends of the young couple had raised the alarm at the police station and on social networks, worried about not having any news. The disappearance was quickly considered worrying by the authorities. Their car was then found in the town hall parking lot, then the two bodies only 900 meters further.
“The findings that were made during the discovery of the bodies show that they were victims of a violent death. It is clear that they were killed”assures the public prosecutor of Caen, Joël Garrigue, at the microphone of TF1. Earlier in the day, the prosecution had clarified that “one of the bodies had significant facial wounds and the other had traces likely to correspond to bullet impacts”. The motive is still unclear but investigators are exploring the possibility of a drug debt.

The two young people, aged 20, lived in the same department, in Trouville-sur-Mer, where these murders shocked the residents. “It’s hard to imagine. Losing your life at 20 when you go shopping… And then you don’t know what happened”testifies a man in the TF1 news video at the top of this article. “I think it’s terrible for them and for the family”confirms a woman. “I thought of my grandchildren. It’s a tragedy”concludes a retiree.
