Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Friday that he was ready for negotiations with his American counterpart Donald Trump on Ukraine, without giving a concrete date.

“I won’t dwell on it, but I can only say that the current president has said that he is ready to work together,” Vladimir Putin said. “We have always said, and I want to emphasize it again, that we are ready for these negotiations on Ukrainian issues,” he added.

The Russian president assured that the “crisis in Ukraine” of 2022, the year the conflict was launched by the Kremlin, could perhaps have been avoided if Donald Trump had been in the White House. “I can only agree with (Donald Trump) that if he had been president, if they had not stolen his victory in 2020, there might not have been the crisis in Ukraine that happened in 2022,” he said on state television, repeating unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election had been “stolen” from Donald Trump.

Putin wants to “negotiate the fate of Europe without Europe”

For its part, Ukraine is opposed to any peace negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump if kyiv and Europe are not involved, the Ukrainian presidency warned on Friday. Putin wants to “negotiate the fate of Europe without Europe.” He wants to talk about Ukraine without Ukraine. This will not happen. Putin himself must come back to reality, or he will be brought back to reality,” insisted the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration Andriï Iermak on Telegram.
