“Today, we are nationally recognized”: Jazz festival takes over the city

the essential
This Sunday, January 26 at Cap Découverte, it will be the start of the 6th edition of jazz, with Louise Jallu. From Wednesday, the festival will head to the Grand Théâtre d’Albi and the “Magic mirrors”.

Time passes but the beautiful jazz notes resist the bite of winter. This year again, we will be entitled to original programming, new releases, creations, paid at the Grand Théâtre and free under the big top.

Eve Risser will be one of the pillars of this 6th edition.

This is already the 6th edition of Albi Jazz festival, an event that is growing. “Today, we are nationally recognized in the world of jazz. For us, it is easier to bring artists, because they know or have heard of the quality of our large hall which is unanimously praised for its acoustics “, proudly supports the director of the National Stage, Nathalie Besançon.

And this 2025 program? “It’s intense, dense,” she adds. Let us unravel the mysteries of this artistic process. “Already, there is no In and Off. This would mean that the best would pay off. This is absolutely not the case. There is only one programming which intersects with talents everywhere.”

“This program is dense and intense”

The Magic Mirrors, this musical marquee located opposite the Grand Théâtre, is one of the highlights of this jazz week. Entrance is free. You can have a snack and a drink, while listening to good concerts. “If we have to highlight two moments, I would say the group Nout (Thursday 30), made up of three incredible musicians as well as 2035 (Friday 31), the flower of Parisian jazz, which offers ultra raw music”, adds the secretary General, Boris Sommer.

And in the lair of the Grand Théâtre? “It’s so difficult to highlight someone, as the entire program is so close to our hearts. Obviously, we think of Incandescent (Friday the 31st) with magnificent, poetic music, made of rock, classical and a touch of improvisation.”

Nathalie Besançon reflects: “There are so many. Let’s not forget the incredible talent of saxophonist Géraldine Laurent (Sunday February 1). In fact, they are all good.”

“We want to maintain close proximity with the artists”

The other advantage of Albi Jazz is its proximity to the artists. Many stay for several days, wandering around the lobby of the Grand Théâtre or under the big top to chat with the public. “We care a lot about this relationship. It’s a bit of the DNA of our festival,” smiles the director.

“Let’s not forget our vinyl fair, on Sunday in the lobby of the Grand Théâtre. It’s always a great success. This year, we are lucky enough to welcome Jazz corner which has the largest collection of jazz vinyls “, confirms the secretary general. Here’s something to enjoy and spend wonderful evenings.

This festival brings magic and warmth to the Albigensian public.
