If the Prime Minister made several concessions to the socialists to avoid censorship after his general policy declaration, the inclusion of these provisions in the text resulting from the joint committee, which will take place on January 30, remains uncertain. The PS had notably obtained from the government that it renounced the elimination of 4,000 teaching positions, 500 positions for France Travail and 924 positions for the Ministry of Justice.
The PS senators announced that they would vote against the text in the Senate and will try to reintegrate their priorities into the text during the joint committee. A deadline which promises to be crucial for the government which is still targeting a public deficit of 5.4% of GDP for 2025. To meet this savings objective, the government proposed, during the session, numerous last minute amendments to reduce the budgets of several ministries. “Blows down” denounced by the left, including a reduction of 800 million euros in development aid, a reduction of one billion for housing and ecology, and 600 million for research and higher education. A reduction in funds allocated to sport has also been proposed by the government.
