Joe Biden highlighted investments in microprocessors and the energy transition. Donald Trump does it with artificial intelligence (AI). The day after his inauguration, the new American president announced, live from the White House, Tuesday January 21, a considerable investment in AI called “Stargate”. One hundred billion dollars (96 billion euros) disbursed immediately, which is expected to be increased to 500 billion dollars over the next four years, will be intended to build the infrastructure powering the next generation of advances in AI, primarily huge data centers and the energy system powering them.
The project is led by OpenAI, the firm that launched ChatGPT at the end of 2022, the Japanese investment company SoftBank and the digital giant Oracle. Their leaders were present at the White House: Sam Altman (OpenAI), Masayoshi Son (SoftBank) and Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, the fourth largest American fortune.
