Football: Nuri Sahin is no longer the coach of Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s defeat against Bologna in the Champions League was one too many (2-1). The German club announced on Wednesday that it was parting ways with its coach Nuri Sahin after only six months of collaboration. Dortmund currently remains on a streak of four consecutive defeats and has won only one of its last 9 matches. The former Turkish midfielder arrived for three seasons in June 2024 and leaves the club after only 27 matches on the bench (12 wins, 4 draws, 11 defeats).

“We greatly appreciate Nuri Sahin and his work, we wanted a long collaboration and we hoped until the end that we would reach a sporting turning point together,” regrets Lars Ricken, sporting director of the club in a press release. After four consecutive defeats, with only one victory in the last nine games, and as currently tenth in the Bundesliga, we have unfortunately lost faith in the possibility of achieving our sporting goals in the current situation. This decision pains me, but it was inevitable after the Bologna match. »

The last finalist of the C1 occupies 10th place in the Bundesliga rankings and remains in a good position on the European scene. Borussia Dortmund is still in the running for qualification for the Champions League play-offs (13th, 12 points).
