He must have drawn much more than he would have thought. But Ben Shelton will play well in his second Grand Slam semi-final, a little over a year after that of the US Open 2023. After a rather controlled start to the game, the 22-year-old American was pushed to his limits by the surprise of the fortnight Lorenzo Sonego, 55th in the world, whom he finally defeated in four sets (6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6) and 3h50 of play in the quarter-final of the Australian Open on Wednesday. In the final four, Shelton could well challenge the title holder and world number 1 Jannik Sinner who faces Alex de Minaur in the night session.
