While the announcement of the postponement of GTA VI recently cooled expectations, Rockstar Games has rekindled enthusiasm by revealing a second trailer for its future blockbuster. On the program: an explosive cinematographic montage, breathtaking visuals, and a renewed immersion in the streets of Vice City. But very quickly, a question was imposed on the networks: are the images really from the game as it will run on console?
GTA VI, a trailer or visual illusion? Rockstar answers
Skeptical voices were quickly amounted, suggesting that the trailer was mainly based on pre-reporting CGI scenes, shot on high-end equipment reserved for studios. However, a small detail at the end of the video mentions that everything was “captured on PS5”, a clarification that Rockstar has considered good to officially reaffirm on its social networksx :
The Grand Theft Auto VI trailer 2 was fully captured in the game from a PlayStation 5, composed equally of gameplay and cutscenes.
A similar mention is also present in the description YouTube You trailer.
-Digital Foundry Valid: Yes, it’s PS5
To check these words, the Digital Foundry team has looked into the trailer. Verdict: Technical analysis corroborates the claims of Rockstar. Published in 4K at 30 FPS with a somewhat strange aspect ratio (20: 9), the video displays a native resolution estimated at 2560 × 1152 pixel, or about 80 % of 1440p vertical.
The rendering suggests a probable use of scaling techniques, such as FSR 1.0 of AMD, which would explain certain typical visual artefacts, especially in distant elements or texts. But despite this, the level of details remains impressive, and above all, credible on a basic PS5, without resorting to the power of the future PS5 Pro.
This positioning contrasts with other AAA+productions, such as The Witcher 4, whose introductory trailer turned on an RTX 5090 not yet announced at the time of the teaser. Rockstar plays the card of transparency-and prudence-by focusing on in-engine content directly from a console available on the market.
There is no doubt that Rockstar will reserve preferential treatment for the PC version of GTA VI, probably expected after the console launch planned in 2026.
