The Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced an average annual increase of 0.9% in 2024, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP). This development results from an increase of 0.8% in the prices of food products and 1.2% of non-food products, with notable differences depending on the categories and regions.
The largest increases were noted in the restaurant and hotel sectors (+3.4%), while healthcare recorded a decline of 1.3%. Geographically, Laâyoune shows the highest price increase (+3%), followed by Guelmim (+2.2%) and several other cities such as Dakhla, Safi and Agadir.
In December 2024, the CPI recorded a slight decrease of 0.2% compared to November. This decrease is explained by the drop in prices of vegetables (-3.9%) and fruit (-2.3%), partly offset by an increase in meat (+1%) and oils and fats (+ 0.8%). Fuel prices also increased by 0.3% over this period.
Finally, the underlying inflation indicator, which excludes products with volatile prices, increased by 2.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, reflecting moderate pressure on prices apart from seasonal fluctuations and administered.
