Known for his role as assistant to Zinédine Zidane at Real Madrid – together they formed a winning duo, notably accumulating three Champions Leagues – David Bettoni (53 years old) is now enjoying the glory days of the legendary Club Africain in Tunis , currently second in the championship, one point behind Stade Tunisien.
The African Club, which is coming out of a failed season without continental qualification, was quite a challenge for David Bettoni, propelled to the head of a team for the first time in his coaching career from the start of the season. As head coach, his only experience in this position took place during the season at FC Sion in Switzerland at the end of the 2023-2024 financial year.
A little flashback. When he turned the page on his playing career in 2004, encouraged by the management of AS Cannes, David Bettoni immediately became a trainer for the Cannes club where he began by taking care of the under-13s and under-14s. years. Then, he completed his professional coaching diplomas at the national football institute in Clairefontaine.
Staying in football seemed vital for the man who was born in the Lyon suburbs. “ Even when I was a player, I observed everything, I often spoke to my coaches. I think I immediately wanted to help young people progress when I stopped playing myself », immediately admits David Bettoni who ends up saying that we can progress at any age.
-Transmission as a mantra
And to live a story with this team, David Bettoni intends to put in place a working methodology with players who do not have a European curriculum in terms of training.
