End of the controversy in Melbourne.
Less than 24 hours after the boycott of Novak Djokovic’s post-match interview during his round of 16 match against Jiri Lehecka, the former world No. 1 received a public apology from Tony Jones, journalist for Channel Nine.
In a short video, Jones returned to his comments and apologized to the player as well as to the Serbian fans: “I was made aware on Saturday that the Djokovic camp was not happy at all with these comments.
I contacted them immediately and apologized, this was 48 hours ago.
I renew my apologies to Novak, if he felt a lack of respect, which is clearly the case. I must also say that this lack of respect extended to Serbian fans.
-We have a good relationship with them, they bring a lot of color and passion. I feel like I disappointed them. »
Djokovic’s response was released in a Tennis Australia statement:
“Novak acknowledges that the apology was made in public as requested. He will now move on and focus on his next match. »
