Barthélémy Papineau was discovered lifeless at his home in Capendu, this Monday, January 20, 2025.
This Monday, January 20, the Aude firefighters and gendarmes were called to intervene in the town of Capendu, at the home of the baker and his family. According to information from our colleague L’Indépendant, it was his wife who found Barthélémy Papineau in a well located on their property. She would have gone after him, but despite her attempts, she unfortunately could not save him. The firefighters as well as the Smur were then quickly dispatched to the scene, as well as the gendarmes who carried out the usual findings. According to the first elements, it would be a voluntary act on the part of the victim.
“A terrible drama”
“It’s a terrible tragedy, a great misfortune for his family and for the town,” said Mayor Claude Busto, who was immediately alerted, the town hall being next to the Papineaus’ home. “We will ensure that we provide the necessary psychological support to his children,” he added.
Barthélémy Papineau was originally from Vendée, aged 38, and father of two children. In July 2016, he opened his bakery at 57 rue de Verdun in Carcassonne, with his partner Tiffany, taking over from Dominique Noez. A year ago, the bakery had a facelift, modernizing its decoration. In 2021, the couple participated in the M6 show, La Meilleure Boulangerie de France. Barthélémy Papineau had already encountered competition: in 2007 he won the title of world baking champion in Japan as part of the Skills Olympics.
-Attacked in the pedestrian street
On September 25, the Carcassonne baker was gratuitously attacked in the pedestrian street Georges-Clemenceau, near the Monoprix store and received a stab in the shoulder while he was walking with his family. The suspect was quickly arrested following the events and the victim was taken care of without his life being in danger.
After this tragedy, the Papineau bakery is closed for an indefinite period.
