The presentation of folding smartphones Galaxy Z Fold6 et Galaxy Z Flip6 in July 2024 shortly before the Olympic Games will not have really helped to make them more attractive to the public.
It must be said that they essentially take the design and functionalities of previous generations, and always at premium prices and beyond which necessarily limit adoption.
Faced with a segment that seems to have become largely a renewal market without attracting many new users, Samsung will undoubtedly have to react.
Galaxy Z Fold7 affiné, Galaxy Z Flip FE
Rumors already mention a Galaxy Z Fold 7 which could be refined by making some concessions on the stylet S Pen. The latter would use an alternative scanning technology which would require charging it, like the Apple Pencil stylus, but which would make it possible to remove a layer of the screen of the folding smartphone and gain a few millimeters in thickness.
There would be a change with the Galaxy Z Fold7 stylus
We also speak of a Galaxy Z Flip Fan Edition (FE) which could be offered at a lower price again subject to some limitations on functionality compared to the future Galaxy Z Flip7, and which remains the best way to boost sales.
It would have the same elongated flexible display of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and would use an Exynos 2400 processor with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space while the Z Flip7 would use a chip Exynos 2500 more recent and engraved in 3 nm.
-A first Samsung smartphone folding in three
But Samsung would also have a new folding smartphone format in preparation. Competitor Huawei pulled out all the stops in 2024 by launching the Mate XTa smartphone capable of folding in three.
Huawei Mate XT, first to offer a tri-folding display
The Korean giant (but it would not be the only one since Xiaomi could do the same) would also have a smartphone project that folds into three and offers a large display surface with a diagonal of 10 inches approximately once unfolded.
According to the latest rumors, the smartphone will be limited to production of 200,000 units to test the market before considering going further. Waited for the third quarter 2025it promises to be expensive and will therefore undoubtedly be more of a demonstrator than a mobile device capable of modifying market balances.
