Here we go again.
According to what Ben Nicholson-Smith reports, the Toronto Blue Jays have shown interest in Max Scherzer on the terms of a contract for the 2025 season.
The problem? Right now, even though the Blue Jays want Scherzer, who has quite the reputation and is going to Cooperstown in a few years, he has still slowed down. And he’s more hurt than before.
Shouldn’t the Blue Jays sign a more stable pitcher instead? Possibly, yes.
But you also have to consider that if Scherzer joins a seventh career team, he will undoubtedly want to do so with a team that has a chance of winning the World Series.
Does he like the Blue Jays’ chances? We can imagine that like many players, Toronto is not exactly his preferred destination at the time of writing these lines. Bringing reinforcements to town might help convince him. Pete Alonso (his former teammate in New York), maybe?
-Should the Blue Jays, who were interested in signing Tanner Scott (who is heading to the Dodgers bullpen), instead focus on signing a Carlos Estevez-style reliever? Maybe.
Because yes, to everyone’s surprise, the Blue Jays would like to sign Estevez.
At this point, we feel that desperation is gripping the Blue Jays more and more. The club really needs to improve and the club management will have to offer too big a contract to one or two free agents to do so.
The pressure is on the bosses in Toronto.
