“Inaction” and “negligence”. The Ukrainian Investigative Bureau (DBR) has arrested two generals and a colonel from the Ukrainian army. They are accused of not having been able to prevent Russia from occupying part of the Kharkiv region in May 2024.
Two years after the start of the war, the Russian army launched a surprise offensive across the border in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian soldiers were able to stop the Russian offensive, but they were unable to retake the area. Result: several localities were destroyed by Russian strikes and tens of thousands of civilians fled.
The DBR believes that “their negligent attitude” allowed Russia to penetrate up to 10 km deep into Ukraine which lost control of part of its border, indicates a press release, but also “the loss of personnel and weapons.
Poor coordination and desertion
The imprisoned soldiers are a former commander of the Kharkiv battle group, the former commander of the 125th territorial defense brigade and the former commander of a battalion. Their senior officers criticized them for having poorly coordinated the defense of the sector, for not having organized artillery and aviation support and for not having prepared the fortifications. The former battalion commander is separately suspected of having deserted the battlefield.

New sanctions against pro-Russian politicians
Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on Sunday that imposes new sanctions on pro-Russian politicians and propagandists. It thus implements a decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Eighteen people are mentioned in the official decree.
