Franck Cammas, who has won almost everything, is launching into the race for the 2028-2029 edition with an innovative structure

The sailor announces that he wants to participate in the 11e edition of the world tour in four years. A solo return to basics combined with the creation of a new structure.

He won everything, or almost… Solitaire du Figaro 1997, Transat Jacques Vabre 2001, 2003, 2021, Route du Rhum 2010, Trophée Jules Verne 2010, Volvo Ocean Race 2012… All he lacks is a monument to his immense prize list: the Vendée Globe… And this Monday, Franck Cammas announced that he wanted to set off during the 11e edition of the world tour in 2028. A sort of solo homecoming for someone who has sailed a lot in crews, including world tours, records and even the America’s Cup.

In a press release, the sailor also announced the launch of a new structure, the “Sailing generation”, “ an innovative, inclusive and performance-oriented structure (which) aims to bring together some of the best players in ocean racing and Olympic sailing. It will bring together the essential skipper Franck Cammas, who will launch an ambitious IMOCA project, and three sailors recognized for their talent, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz, Jérémie Mion (49er) and Paola Amar (470). »

The objective is displayed: “ unite energies, know-how and mobilize technical resources in order to give ourselves the means to achieve our ambitions. With the sights set on: The Ocean Race 2027 (crewed round-the-world trip) then a year 2028 which promises to be grandiose with the Los Angeles Olympic Games and the next edition of the Vendée Globe.»

« We brought together four enthusiasts, rejoices Franck Cammas. We know that together, we will be able to share our knowledge, our experience and that we will be even more effective in aiming for the highest. We want to form a center of technological excellence. In the medium term, it will allow significant work to be carried out in terms of engineering, aerodynamics and structures for all members of Sailing Génération. Firstly, this design team will be responsible for designing and developing an Imoca. The current edition of the Vendée Globe demonstrates the importance of having a latest generation boat to aim for victory. The design is one of the aspects that excites me the most and I am convinced that we can build a boat that is both innovative and efficient, designed for the next cycle (2024-2028). »

With this announcement, while the arrivals of the Vendée Globe follow one another in Les Sables d’Olonne (after the first three, the next sailors are expected from Thursday), Franck Cammas is positioning himself for the next edition with regard to interested companies and launches a call to partners: “For the first time, we are allowing companies to engage with everything that makes sailing rich and diverse, from offshore racing to Olympic sailing. They will be visible on all of our projects, activities and all the races in which we participate. For them, it is an opportunity to support a multitude of profiles, different stories, sporting destinies and to highlight their uniqueness. It is no longer support for a sailor and a project, it is the stories of women and men that we support, as eclectic as our discipline and our society are. Our DNA is to broaden the base and be open to all these profiles. »
