Israeli hostages Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher were released by Hamas on Sunday January 19. In a square invaded by crowds in Gaza, several dozen Hamas fighters staged their release, while their relatives followed the operations live. They were able to express their joy and relief when they saw the three women, entrusted to the Red Cross, then to the Israeli army, arrive in Israel.

Emily Damari, injured in the hand on October 7, was reunited with her family after more than 470 days of captivity in Hamas tunnels. In Tel Aviv (Israel), thousands of people gathered to follow this historic day.

The ceasefire came into effect in the morning three hours late, but the day then proceeded according to the terms of the agreement. At the time of the release of the hostages, 90 Palestinian prisoners were preparing to leave Israeli prisons, at a time which remained uncertain although the evening was well underway.
