The alleged perpetrator of the savage knife attack on a jogger from Vergèze could be brought before a magistrate of the Nîmes judicial court this Sunday for possible indictment
The case of the attack on the jogger, perpetrated on Saturday January 11 in Vergèze, accelerated on Friday evening with the placement in police custody of a suspect who was arrested by the gendarmes of the Nîmes research section. The man whose identity has not been revealed is the number one suspect in the savage attack on a resident of Vergèze who was stabbed while she was running on a health journey. Investigators from the Gard gendarmerie group and the Nîmes SR launched a vast operation on the scene to try to collect elements and testimonies in order to draw up a reliable description of the author of the attack. The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office has opened a flagrant investigation into attempted murder.
DNA and CCTV footage
Since the events, the gendarmes have increased their investigative actions and carried out numerous hearings and checks to target the attacker of the jogger. A suspect was therefore identified and subsequently, investigators continued to accumulate information to confuse the individual when he was placed in police custody. Which means in other words that in this type of case when the investigators decide to start police custody, they often have solid charges to start the hearings. In some cases, they have testimonies or even video surveillance images or even DNA traces.
Did the attacker leave DNA on the jogger?
In the Vergèze case, the violence of the attack and the proximity of the perpetrator to the victim at the time of the violence suggests that the suspect left biological traces on the jogger or at the scene of the attack. In all likelihood, the gendarmes could have DNA traces in this case. But this information is not officially confirmed, as are the charges which led to and permitted the placement in police custody of this individual. “This is a 25-year-old man, residing in the area where the facts were committed,” said Cécile Gensac, the public prosecutor of Nîmes in a press release issued on Saturday January 18. According to our information, the alleged perpetrator has already committed an offense in the past but clearly not in connection with acts of stabbing.
-Referred this Sunday before a magistrate of the Nîmes judicial court
This Sunday, the alleged attacker of the jogger should be brought before a magistrate of the Nîmes judicial court. The judicial agenda should take place with an opening of judicial information. Which means that the prosecutor entrusts the case to an investigating judge for acts of a criminal nature, possibly for attempted murder. Then, it is up to the investigating magistrate to decide on the qualification he retains at the end of the first appearance interrogation. Secondly, if necessary, the prosecution takes requisitions for placement in pre-trial detention and asks the judge of freedoms to temporarily incarcerate the suspect for reasons linked to the preservation of evidence and in criminal cases for notions disturbances to public order.
This Sunday, the deputy public prosecutor, Frédéric Kocher, should organize a press conference to deliver the objective elements collected during the Nîmes SR investigation.
