PREMATCH

The Detroit Lions are in uncharted territory. For the first time in their history, they occupy the role of first seed in the Association and they intend to honor it.

This season, the watchword for the Lions is the Super Bowl. To continue towards this goal, they will have to put an end to the astonishing run of the Washington Commanders.

The latter are neglected for this duel in front of the team which finished the campaign with a record of 15-2. But while Detroit waited to find out its opponent, Jayden Daniels added a page to his book that chronicles an already impressive rookie season. He was able to lead the Commanders to a 23-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He thus became the fourth rookie at the quarterback position to sign the victory in his first outing in the playoffs.

The task now promises to be colossal against an offensive unit which has largely dominated its opponents this season. Moreover, the Lions will find their running back David Montgomery who was sidelined during the final stretch of the season with a knee injury. The Lions will thus have their duo of running backs with Jahmyr Gibbs who stood out even more in the absence of his teammate.

If Marshon Lattimore had his hands full with Mike Evans last week, the situation could be just as complex on Saturday with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.

Does Daniels have one more magic trick up his sleeve after leading the Commanders to their first playoff win in 19 years? A victory and Washington will reach the Association final for the first time since 1991.

The winners will face either the Los Angeles Rams or the Philadelphia Eagles who face each other on Sunday at 3 p.m. (RDS).
