Roma confirms excellent home form with convincing victory against Genoa in Serie A

AS Roma comfortably dominated Genoa with a 3-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico to move to the top of the Serie A table following a sixth consecutive home victory.

The Romans have made a habit of starting their matches quickly, having opened the scoring within the first 13 minutes in their last three home matches. Paulo Dybala almost continued that trend with a powerful free kick that hit the crossbar just nine minutes into the game.

However, the Giallorossi did not have to wait long to take the lead, with it coming midway through the first half. Lorenzo Pellegrini saw his volley deflected by Nicola Leali, but an opportunistic Artem Dovbyk lurked from six yards out to easily score his fifth goal in six games.

As the hosts attempted to widen the gap, they were surprised by a fine corner move from Genoa, where Fabio Miretti found Patrizio Masini in the box. The latter fired a well-placed volley which went into the back of the net, leaving Mile Svilar helpless.

Suddenly, Roma found themselves in danger of going into half-time with a deficit, something not seen in Serie A since November. Alessandro Zanoli raced behind the Giallorossi defense, but his hesitant cross was cleared.

Returning from the locker room, the Romans regained the initiative, eager to regain the advantage and secure a sixth consecutive home victory. They felt they had been wronged when a handball from Stefano Sabelli in the box was ignored by referee Luca Zufferli.

The home side’s frustrations were short-lived as substitute Stephan El Shaarawy restored Roma’s lead with a fine curling strike from 20 yards which finished in the bottom corner of the goal.

The Giallorossi then secured the points with a third late goal, after Genoa missed a clearance from a Manu Koné cross. Paulo Dybala took his chance to lift the ball over Leali and put it into the back of the net.

Patrick Vieira’s side showed flashes of inspiration at the Stadio Olimpico but were ultimately outclassed, and the Frenchman recorded his second defeat in nine games in charge of the Rossoblu.
