Donald Trump announced the launch of a new memcoin, $TRUMP, based on the Solana blockchain, via his X and Truth Social accounts.
What we know
The messages appeared days before Donald Trump’s inauguration, leading some users to believe the accounts may have been hacked. However, experts have highlighted potential red flags, including the fact that millions of dollars from Binance and Gate – two exchanges that do not cater to US customers – have been invested in the project. Sources close to the Trump family also confirmed the veracity of the announcements. The $TRUMP memcoin project is attributed to the same group behind the Trump NFT.
-The launch of memcoin comes as no surprise, considering its previous cryptocurrency and NFT initiatives. Mr. Trump has assembled a cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence team, led by “cryptocurrency czar” David Sacks. Trump also plans to issue an executive order calling cryptocurrencies a “national imperative or priority” after his inauguration next week.
