“What’s going on in Aubervilliers? » The spectacular plumes of black smoke, which dominate the city center and the market this Saturday morning, were quickly shared on social networks by residents, looking for information. A little before 10 a.m., firefighters were called to a fire which broke out in a warehouse of more than 1,000 m2, located rue du Tournant.
“I saw the fire when I left my house,” confirms Massinissa Hocine, an opposition politician who was among the first to report the disaster. It’s quite violent and fortunately, the smoke doesn’t stagnate too much around it. I called the fire brigade and did some traffic in the nearby streets to stop people from going there. »
Avoid spreading to surrounding buildings
Two high-power hoses were deployed by the Paris firefighters on the building, the ground floor and first floor of which were engulfed in flames. Their objective is to avoid spread to surrounding premises and to preserve the administrative part of the structure.
-In a very first assessment, while the fire is still in progress, the firefighters specify that there are no victims. “There was no one and there are no injured,” also wants to reassure Karine Franclet, mayor (UDI) of Aubervilliers, whom we contacted.
Aubervilliers is one of the towns in Seine-Saint-Denis regularly plagued by major warehouse fires. The city has neighborhoods where old activities accumulate over time, in sometimes heterogeneous buildings. In June 2023, an area of 700 m2 housing textile materials had burned. The previous month, in May 2023, a double textile warehouse of 3,000 m2 was destroyed by flames.
