Serbian star Novak Djokovic demonstrated the full extent of his talent by defeating Czech player Tomas Machac with a resounding score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the third round of the Open d ‘Australia. He is now preparing to face his Czech compatriot Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16.

“I think I played well. I’m really happy with my game. A little surprised by the result. It was my best match of the tournament so far,” Djokovic said in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Rod Laver Arena, punctuated by a strong Serbian presence.

After the match, Djokovic gestured to a fan, advising him to go to bed, after reportedly being harassed during the match. “Now that the match is over, we can both reflect on what happened,” he commented about the incident with the spectator.

His next opponent, Lehecka, also showed impressive form, securing a smooth victory over Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi with a score of 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

Djokovic required medical attention during the first set due to fatigue, but he has now reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the seventeenth time, one appearance away from tying the record of 18 entries in eighth held by Swiss legend Roger Federer.

The victory marked the first time in this tournament that Djokovic has progressed without losing a single set, having previously cruised through the rounds against American player Nishesh Basavareddy and Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria, each in four sets.

Despite a solid victory, the Belgrade native was seen expressing his frustration on several occasions towards a bench led by his long-time rival Andy Murray. Djokovic continues to hope to become the oldest player to win a major title, a feat that would make him the only player, male or female, to surpass the milestone of 24 Grand Slam titles.

Additionally, following his victory in the night session at Rod Laver Arena, Djokovic became the second player over the age of 37 to reach the round of 16 at Melbourne Park, with Federer being the first to achieve this feat.
