FRANKFURT, Germany — Omar Marmoush missed a crucial match, but he still made an appearance on the field to bid farewell as Eintracht Frankfurt easily won 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund, in difficulty, during the Bundesliga.
Frankfurt have opted to leave Marmoush out of the squad, confirming that he is close to finalizing a move to Manchester City and will remain out of the squad while discussions are ongoing.
After the match, Marmoush joined his teammates on the pitch to acknowledge the enthusiastic support of the home crowd, moments before being embraced by his colleagues.

For now, Frankfurt remain in the league race, while Dortmund’s struggles continue, leading to increasing pressure on their coach, Nuri Sahin.

Serhou Guirassy hit the post early in the match, and Jamie Gittens saw a final penalty appeal turned down in Dortmund’s third straight defeat as 2025 began.
Dortmund struggled defensively, particularly against counterattacks, despite possessing the ball for 63% of the match. Ansgar Knauff had the opportunity to increase Frankfurt’s lead, hitting the post late in the game.
Coach Sahin was under increasing pressure even before the match as Dortmund, last season’s Champions League runners-up, fell to 11th in the Bundesliga after a surprising 4-2 defeat to relegation-threatened Holstein Kiel, more early in the week.
Plagued by form difficulties, Dortmund have triumphed only once in their last eight outings in all competitions, a run which has lasted for almost two months.
Despite their domestic struggles, Dortmund can take solace in their strong performances in the Champions League, with a decider against Italian club Bologna on the horizon. They currently sit ninth in the 36-team standings and remain strong candidates to secure one of the top eight spots for direct qualification to the knockout stage, thereby avoiding the preliminary round.
