Food supplements are not always risk-free. A batch recall has just been announced for “Moringa Bio” capsules suspected of being contaminated by E. coli bacteria. This recall is intended to protect consumers from potentially serious harm.

The official Rappel Conso website issued an alert on Thursday January 16 concerning pill boxes of 120 capsules from the Moringa Bio range, manufactured by the Nutrimea brand. These products were sold on the Amazon and Italy platforms between December 27, 2024 and January 31, 2025.

The batch specifically concerned bears the reference 01GEB24122340, with a use-by date of December 31, 2027. These supplements, designed for their alleged energizing and detoxifying properties, potentially contain the pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, which can cause severe gastroenteritis.

A danger to public health

E. coli contamination is a serious risk. According to health authorities, people who have consumed these products could experience, within three days of ingestion, intense abdominal pain, sometimes bloody diarrhea and, in some cases, fever.

If these symptoms appear, it is imperative to consult a doctor immediately, specifying the origin of the contamination. The E. coli bacteria can, in some serious cases, cause complications such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a condition that can affect the kidneys, particularly in young children and the elderly.

Procedure for consumers of these food supplements

The authorities invite consumers to no longer use or consume the suspect capsules. They can contact Nutrimea customer service at 01.88.40.09.83 to obtain further information or arrange a return. A reimbursement procedure has also been put in place for contaminated batches, and it will be valid until April 30, 2025.

For those who have already consumed the products, in case of doubt or suspicious symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor, mentioning the nature of the product consumed. This recall highlights the need to strengthen quality controls on dietary supplements, particularly those sold online. Although natural products are popular for their supposed benefits, they can also present risks without rigorous verification.

The contamination of Nutrimea food supplements constitutes an important alert for consumers. While the recall procedure continues, this case reminds us of the importance of remaining vigilant regarding products marketed on major platforms and of adopting prudent reflexes.
