Cameron Diaz in “Back in Action”, a return to Netflix after ten years of hiatus from the cinema

CULTURE – It is, literally, « Back in action ». Cameron Diaz is back this Friday, January 17 in an action film made by Netflix, in which she shares the poster with Jamie Foxx. It’s been ten years since the star of Charlie’s Angels was absent from the small and big screen.

The last time audiences saw Cameron Diaz, outside of endless reruns of the Christmas movie The Holiday every end of the year, it was 2014 in Annie. A family film in which she (already) starred opposite Jamie Foxx. Back in Action marks in fact the third collaboration of the two actors, after Annie therefore, but also Sunday Hell released in 1999.

The actor is also the main reason why Cameron Diaz agreed to come out of early retirement, as she explains in a video posted on the Still Watching Netflix YouTube channel. “ I didn’t think I would make a film again. I was very happy in my daily life. And then Jamie called me, says the actress. And we can’t say no to him. If I were ever to go back to a film set and spend months having a laugh, it would definitely be with him. »

Family and business

During these ten years away from film sets, Cameron Diaz has, by his own admission, “ absolutely nothing done “. The actress has not participated in any public event, any red carpet, anything related to the entertainment industry. She focused on the family she started with musician Benji Madden and her company. She has in fact launched a wine brand called Avaline. “ When I was doing anything other than just being a mom, I was taking care of my business, and that’s it. Above all, I try to survive, like all mothers, to manage as best I can », says the actress, laughing.

Motherhood is also another reason for her return to the forefront. The actress and the Good Charlotte guitarist became the parents of two children: Raddix born in 2019 and Cardinal born in 2024. It was also partly her partner who pushed her to accept this new challenge (before the birth of their second child). “ He kept telling me “You took care of us, our family, you supported me in my career. It’s our turn to be there for you and let mom accomplish what she wants,” she recalled.

Back in action is online on Netflix since Friday January 17. For the moment, Cameron Diaz has not revealed whether she plans to return, for good, to action.
