    Donald Trump’s chief photographer has just unveiled the official portrait of the new president of the United States on X. Many Internet users saw it as a nod to the criminal’s ID photo (photo d’identification) taken during the billionaire’s arrest in August 2023. Donald Trump was then indicted for his attempts to invalidate the result of the 2020 presidential election.

    Between astonishment, support and amusement, reactions poured in on social networks. Some supporters of the president-elect hailed the portrait as a symbol of “strength” and “determination,” while other critics saw it as an attempt to downplay his legal troubles.

    This photo contrasts with Donald Trump’s first term in 2017, where he posed all smiles in front of the star-spangled banner. More generally, the 47th president is moving away from the traditional conventions of American presidential portraits, experts say.
