Death of Jean-Marie Le Pen: what we know about the tribute organized this Thursday in Paris

A tribute ceremony is being held this Thursday in in honor of Jean-Marie Le Pen, a little over a week after his death.

Unlike the funeral, the event organized by his family and the National Gathering will be open to everyone, or almost.

Several hundred people are expected.

Jean-Marie Le Pen, who died on January 7 at the age of 96, was buried on Saturday in the cemetery of his hometown of Trinité-sur-Mer (Morbihan), after a mass celebrated in the strictest family privacy. A little more than a week after his death, a last tribute to the founder of the National Front is organized this Thursday by his family and the National Rally in Paris. The event, which takes place at the Notre-Dame du Val-de-Grâce church, is this time open to the public.

Up to half a thousand people are expected there, but only around 500 will be able to attend mass inside. Two giant screens will broadcast the ceremony on the esplanade facing the royal abbey.

The vast majority of RN elected officials will be present, as will several of their UDR allies, including Éric Ciotti. The Le Pen family opposed the arrival of the actor Dieudonné who had announced on the social network “present at the public funeral of Jean-Marie Le Pen”.

An unprecedented security system will be deployed around the church, with several dozen police officers and CRS mobilized to prevent any excess.

The Eucharist, celebrated at 11 a.m. by a former military chaplain, will be accompanied by a musical ensemble and a choir assembled especially for the occasion, according to details obtained by the JDD, which adds that an independent street choir will close the event. by performing sea and military songs in front of the building.
