He was a visionary director. Thursday January 16, the family of David Lynch announced his death at the age of 78 on their Facebook page. “There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us”it is notably written in this sober message tinged with humor: “But, as he said, ‘Keep your eyes on the donut and not the hole.’ It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.” In 2024, he revealed that he had emphysema after spending his entire life smoking. He then announced that if he didn’t officially retire, he probably wouldn’t be able to leave home to make films.

Revealed in 1977 with his experimental film EraserheadDavid Lynch was entrusted in 1980 with the production ofElephant Maninspired by the life of Joseph Merrick. The film is shot in black and white and combines realism and symbolism, paying homage to expressionist cinema. It then allowed the director to make a name for himself in the world of cinema, with a series of projects such as the science fiction film Dune, Blue Velvet, Sailor et Lulafor which he received the Palme d’Or at the Film Festival in 1990, but also cult feature films like Lost Highway et Mulholland Drive. Without obviously forgetting the series Twin Peakswhich is available on the myCANAL and Prime Video platforms.

Where to (re)see David Lynch’s films?

After the announcement of David Lynch’s death, there is no doubt that his fans will want to (re)see his greatest films. Good news: most are available on streaming platforms. For fans of Dune, before Denis Villeneuve’s version, the first adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel is available on Prime Video, just like Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Methe film based on the hit series starring Kyle Maclachlan and Sheryl Lee. His cult film Mulholland Drivewith Naomi Watts and Laura Harring is available on the Max, Prime Video and myCANAL platforms.

For fans of Lost Highway, the film is also available on Prime Video as well as on the Univerciné platform. For the director’s other feature films, namely Elephant Man, A true story, Sailor et Lula et Blue Velvetyou will have to turn to VOD platforms to rent or buy them, from 2.49 euros.
