A colossal project
After the first phase of the project was completed last summer, the second phase has begun a week after the 2024 Formula 1 racein July. Currently, 620 people work on the circuit daily. During the fall, up to 12 tower cranes were active on site.
In the six months since last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the renovation required the use of 23,785 cubic meters of concrete, 7,604 tonnes of reinforcing steel and 759 square meters of masonry structure .
Concerning the main stand, 100% of the prefabricated reinforced concrete beams and almost 50% of the stand elements have been installed, while the staircase elements are being installed. Furthermore, the backfilling around the paddock building made it possible to finalize the major earthworks.
In other areas, construction of the vertical structure of the third floor of the paddock building is progressing, and 22 kilometers of protective tubes as well as 80 kilometers of conduits have been laid around the track, including 20 kilometers of electrical cables. In addition, the high-current system in the depot area has been completed, and 90% of the low-current systems have been completed.
A 40th anniversary for the Hungarian circuit
If all goes according to plan, spectators at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix will be able to experience the new face of the Hungaroringas part of this renovation project which will continue until 2026.
“Our circuit has undergone an incredible transformation”declared Zsolt Gyulay, PDG du Hungaroring. “The view changes every day, with the new main building and main stand rising at an impressive rate. »
“This is one of the largest and most exciting construction projects in Hungary, a real highlight of the Hungarian construction industry. We will have to organize the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix without the main building being completely completed, which will require temporary solutions for the race management and media center. »
“After this year’s race, we will immediately return the venue to the contractor so that the Hungaroring will become a multifunctional event center by 2026, meeting all needs and operational 365 days a year. »
“We look forward to welcoming international participants. I think many will be surprised when they see the changes taking place. And I am convinced that the entire Formula 1 team will be satisfied with what they discover”he concludes.
