Warriors’ dominance leads to big win over Clippers in division clash

The Wildwood Warriors cruised to a commanding victory over the Clayton Clippers in a thrilling Tri-County Conference Classic Division clash Wednesday night, thanks to a hot start that set the tone for the game. Star player Macie McCracken is still looking for her 2,000th career point. Although she finished with 25 points, her contributions were instrumental in the Warriors’ dominating victory, 55-35.

Coming into the game needing 26 points to reach that coveted milestone, McCracken demonstrated an unselfish style of play, choosing to sit out the final minutes to let her teammates shine on the court. “My teammates took the lead when I didn’t need to score, and I wasn’t going to force it if I didn’t need to,” McCracken said after the victory.

The triumph marks the second consecutive victory for Wildwood, which is recovering from a narrow defeat against Woodstown on January 9. Now the Warriors sit atop the division, tied with Gloucester Catholic with a perfect 4-0 record. The two teams will face each other for the first time this season on Thursday.

On the other hand, this defeat ends a streak of six consecutive victories for the Clippers, who now have a record of 3-2 in the division. “To get a win and score as much as possible,” McCracken said of his expectations for the game against Clayton. “I thought we played well, it was a big win for us in the conference, and we have another big game tomorrow to prepare for.”

Wildwood got off to a sensational start, building an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, with McCracken scoring 12 of those points. By halftime, she had 18 points, propelling her team to a commanding 28-11 lead.

Clayton began to gain momentum in the third quarter, but Wildwood continued to extend its lead, outscoring the Clippers 15-12 and taking a comfortable 43-23 lead entering the final quarter. Both teams managed to score 12 points in the fourth quarter, sealing the game with a final score of 55-35.
