The network of municipal libraries of Lyon (BmL) is experiencing change at the start of 2025 with the appointment this Monday of a new director, in the person of Ophélie Ramonatxo.
Experience abroad
There is no shortage of experience for the one who succeeds Nicolas Galaud. After starting her career at the head of a public reading network in Seine-Saint-Denis, she decided to join the French diplomatic network abroad.
She was then appointed chief curator and joined the state civil service. This was followed by recruitment at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in 2017 as director of the major new site project in Amiens, then deputy director of International Relations and member of the management committee from 2021 to 2024.
Ophélie Ramonatxo must now manage the large BmL network made up of 4 million documents spread across 16 libraries.
All this attracts a little more than 2 million visitors per year. The objective remains unchanged, “to pursue the mission of making culture accessible to all and of making each library a living space. »
