Lucas, 13, who attended a college in the Vosges, had been facing insults and homophobic remarks from students at his establishment for several months. Despite her mother’s repeated alerts and the two reports she had filed, no disciplinary action had been taken. He killed himself in January 2023 after suffering months of homophobic harassment.
The recently completed administrative investigation by National Education confirms that Lucas was the subject of repeated discriminatory violence, both inside and outside the establishment, particularly on social networks. The conclusions of the investigation highlight a lack of responsiveness on the part of the educational institution, which, although informed, did not initiate sufficient disciplinary follow-up.
Lucas’ family continued their fight in court, and the case is now before the Court of Cassation, after the conviction for harassment of the four teenagers involved, but without establishing causality with Lucas’ suicide.
