While the Canadiens defense has found stability, Logan Mailloux is having a difficult time with the Laval Rocket.
His game on Wednesday against the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins can even be described as excruciating.
Relying only on his match record, we can believe that Mailloux was not that terrible. He had an assist on the game-winning goal in overtime and finished with a zero differential. But that doesn’t reflect his game at all.
The Penguins took control of this game by scoring the first three goals. Mailloux was precisely responsible for the third goal, he who caused a turnover at the opposing blue line, which allowed the Penguins to attack in excess.
And that’s not all. Mailloux was punished in the second period for roughness. Right out of the penalty box, he double-checked Emil Bemstrom and the referees sent him back to the penalty box.
These are stupid penalties that can easily be avoided.
Really nothing worked for Mailloux in this match. He was removed from the power play in the third period. Pascal Vincent seemed to have enough with him on the power play for this game.
We had seen Logan Mailloux lose a little playing time on the power play in recent games, he who is going through difficult times, but to be completely removed from the power play is something.
Mailloux, who is considered a talented offensive player, has only collected three points in his last 17 games. It’s just awful for him.
What’s craziest about this story is that he’s going to be one of the Rocket’s two representatives at the AHL All-Star Game. It’s a bit shameful for Laval, which has many players who are enjoying much more success currently.
Mailloux will have to find his bearings soon, because at this rate, there is no chance that he will receive a call-up with the Canadiens.
