In a major blow to the San Antonio Spurs, Riley Minix underwent season-ending surgery due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. This unfortunate development was reported by Michael C. Wright of ESPN.com.
The injury occurred during a G League game on January 1, while Minix was wearing an Austin Spurs jersey. The undrafted rookie from Morehead State had a two-way contract with the Rockets, primarily splitting his time between the Austin Spurs and parent franchise San Antonio.
Despite his efforts, Minix saw little playing time with the Spurs, appearing in only one game where he played seven minutes in a crushing 27-point loss to the Houston Rockets on November 6. The team and fans will wonder what could have been for this promising rookie as he faces a long recovery ahead of him.
