US President Joe Biden officially declared on Tuesday that he is extending his executive order paving the way for sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank for 12 months, beyond the emergency order’s original expiration date, set as of February 1, 2025.

“The situation in the West Bank – particularly high levels of extremist settler violence, forced displacement of people and villages, and destruction of property – has reached intolerable levels and poses a serious threat to peace, security and stability of the West Bank and Gaza, Israel and the broader Middle East region,” he wrote in an official notice.

They also undermine the security of Israel and are likely to lead to broader regional destabilization in the Middle East, thereby threatening United States personnel and interests,” Mr. Biden continued.

Noting that the situation in the occupied West Bank “continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to United States national security and foreign policy,” Biden said he was maintaining the national emergency declared in the executive order for another year. .
